Not a particularly great crop of new shows on Broadway this fall, it appears. As the Wall Street Journal notes:
An extra chill is blowing down Broadway as nearly every new fall show that hasn’t already closed prepares to shutter by the end of next month.
Of the 19 shows that opened this season, only two are staying put for now. “Long Story Short,” starring comedian Colin Quinn, has extended its run into February, and “Lombardi,” about the football legend, is expected to run at least through the winter. Some productions have closed ahead of schedule or had their open-ended runs swiftly cut short. Others, like the highly anticipated “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” won’t be extending their limited runs. One show, “Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway,” will shutter briefly next month before reopening at a new theater.
It’s a brutal business, and as a rule there are more flops than hits.
Among the shows closing are the musicals Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and The Scottsboro Boys.
